Registration statistics on animal feed and feed additives in 2021 (MARA register license)

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of P.R.China has approved 1,193 register license in an anually basis from January to December 2021, for imported feed and feed additive products.

In terms of product categories, there are 319 feed additives, 187 single feeds, 72 compound feeds, 8 feed premix, 9 concentrate supplements, 292 cat complete foods, 292 dog complete foods, and 14 pet health products. There are a sum of 595 feed products and 598 pet feed products.

In terms of months, there are 100 appvoed register license released in Jan, 99 in Feb, 92 in Mar, 164 in Apr & May, 135 in Jun & Jul, 123 in Aug, 272 in Sep & Oct, and 208 products in Nov & Dec.

Compared with 1,258 approved register license in 2020, the quantity in 2021 is similar. In 2019, 594; in 2018, 568 and 562 in 2017. The quantity of register license for feeds and feed additives has increased rapidly since 2020. The epidemic has hindered the flow of domestic and foreign personnel, but obviously it has not hindered the pace of foreign animal feed companies exploring China market. The surge in the number of import registrations reflects the confidence of foreign companies in China's economy and market.

If foreign feed, feed additives and pet food companies want to access into the emering market, they need to accomplish 2 registrations as compliance requirement by China government. One is that the product needs the registration license from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China; the other is manufacturing facility registration through General Administration of Customs of P.R.C(GACC). After that, foreign companies will have no regulatory issues into China animal feed market.

China is in the process of implementing a revised regulatory and registration system for imported feed and feed additives.
